PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF COGNITIVE RADIO SPECTRUM SENSING TECHNIQUES OVER A RAYLEIGH FADING CHANNEL

This project analyses the performance of three transmitter based methods namely Energy detection, Cyclostationary feature and Matched Filter detection for a primary user on a GSM900 signal over a Rayleigh Fading channel. In addition the project will also simulate and analyse the performance of co-operative sensing technique using different numbers of secondary users, and review how it seeks to solve the hidden node problem.

Design Process

  • A primary signal with GSM900 centre frequency (for example 936MHz given in section 1). The code should also include a plot of this signal in time domain and its FFT.
  • ROC curve for the Energy Detection Method over a Rayleigh channel for the signal mentioned above.
  • A plot of the Probability of Detection vs SNR for Energy detection Method.
  • ROC curve for the Cyclostationary Feature detection Method over a Rayleigh channel for the signal mentioned above.
  • A plot of the Probability of Detection vs SNR for Cyclostationary feature detection Method.
  • ROC curve for the Matched Filter detection Method over a Rayleigh channel for the signal mentioned above.
  • A plot of the Probability of Detection vs SNR for Matched Filter detection Method.
  • ROC curve for the Co-operative Spectrum sensing Method over a Rayleigh channel for the signal mentioned above.
  • A plot of the Probability of Detection vs SNR for Co-operative spectrum sensing Method.

Evaluation of performance is expected to be mainly based on ROC curves for the subject spectrum sensing techniques. The propagation channel considered is Rayleigh Fading channel.
