CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGN AND SIMULATION OF AN AC/DC - DC/DC - DC/AC POWER CONVERTER FOR A PERMANENT MAGNET WIND POWER GENERATOR

This project design based on voltage and frequency control of the generated electricity from a permanent magnet wind turbine. The wind turbine is directly connected to a permanent magnet synchronous generator in order to avoid the losses associated with the gearbox so that only an AC/DC/AC power converter is used to control the variable voltage and frequency. The AC/DC converter is a three phases diode bridge rectifier, the DC/DC converter consists of a Boost converter which keeps the voltage level nearly constant over the whole wind speeds to supply satisfactory a single-phase DC/AC inverter which has four insulated gate bipolar transistors since a single-phase output with constant voltage and frequency is desired. The whole system including the permanent magnet synchronous generator is simulated using Matlab. The design of the AC/DC/AC power converter and its control strategy works very well and can be used in RL loads in rural areas.
