OPTIMAL PLACEMENT OF HYBRID DG USING GENETIC ALGORITHM FOR NIGERIAN NETWORK-41 FEEDERS

The goal of sustainable development implies meeting several objectives including climate change mitigation. If present trends in the combustion of fossil fuels persist, it is very likely that the resulting impacts on the global atmosphere will lead eventually to changes of the global climate that would seriously perturb human societies and perhaps even endanger human life. A recent exhaustive review concluded that “if we don't act, the overall costs and risks of climate change will be equivalent to loss of global GDP (Gross Domestic Product) each year, now and forever. The best strategy of addressing the problem of global warming is a two-pronged strategy of (i) buying time with technologies that delay global warming and (ii) preventing global warming with non-fossil fuel technologies. Buying time is best done through energy efficiency, environmentally more benign fossil fuel technologies (such as natural gas) and greenhouse gas (GHG) sequestration. The most promising non-fossil-fuel technologies are those using renewable energy, the costs of which have declined appreciably over the past two decades. In a scenario of global warming, it would be necessary to turn to them increasingly in order to stabilize GHG concentrations at some safe level. The design considering Nigerian Network-41 feeders with the use of computational intelligence technique using a Genetic Algorithm to determine the optimal location and sizing of DG. Using MATLAB simulation to find the voltage profile before and after DG compensation and to determine the optimal location and sizing the design of the hybrid system consisting of solar, wind and battery storage.
