OPTIMAL PLACEMENT OF STATCOM USING FIREFLY ALGORITHM

DESIGN DETAILS

This design is based on the power system phenomenon and loss reduction using Newton-Raphson load flow method, to increasing stability and maximum load ability of a system by considering the optimal location of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices in power system. Identification of a suitable location for installation of (FACTS) costly device is a vital task; several criteria are to be satisfied before selecting the best location. One type of (FACTS) devices, static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) can be installed on buses and transmission lines. The main of this design is to find optimal location of STATCOM by using Firefly Algorithm, to reduce the power loss. The design is applied on IEEE 57 bus test systems considering with STATCOM and base case i.e without STATCOM using Matlab 2020a.
