DESIGN OF PARALLEL COMBINATION OF PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR(PMSG) AND SQUIRREL-CAGE INDUCTION GENERATOR(SCIG)

With the development of wind turbines (WT) and the capacities of wind power plants have increased significantly in the last years. Wind power plants (WPP) must provide the power quality required by new regulations and the reliability of the power system that is interconnected to. It is very important to analyze and understand the sources of disturbances that affect the power quality. This project proposes a novel controller design of variable speed permanent magnet (PM) wind generator. The controller system is developed to enhance the fault ride through capability of wind farms including fixed speed wind turbine with an induction generator. The controller system Squirrel-Cage Induction Generator (SCIG), and the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG),PMSG-SCIG is designed in such a way to control active and reactive powers supplied to the grid system in normal and fault operating conditions. Combined Wind turbines systems are modeled in Matlab/Simulink environment.

Result Evaluation Parameters

  • Real and filtered wind speed variations

  • The voltage at generator terminals

  • Active and reactive power at generator terminals

  • Rotor speed and apitch angle

  • Maximum and leveling energy
