PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF THE WiMEDIA PHY IN WPAN ENVIRONMENTS AND EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT BY APPLICATION OF LDPC CODES

In order to enable the successful introduction of upcoming and new broadband multimedia services, it is very important to provide ultra-high rate, reliable wireless networks for high-quality media distribution within the home. Such home networks must increase the penetration of access networks and realize seamless wireless access. About these requirements, ultra-wideband technology based on the WiMedia platform promises energy efficient and scalable wireless networks, which complement current wireless home networks by adding ultrahigh throughput in the WPAN area. This Matlab design evaluates the performance evaluation of the WiMedia physical layer (PHY) in terms of bit error rate (BER) versus Eb/N0. The simulation results are based on a realistic channel model for indoor ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless personal area network (WPAN) environments. Simulation results show that there is significant room for improvement by enhancement channel coding by applying the scheme of Shannon-limit approaching Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes.
