POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN DISTRIBUTION NETWORK USING DSTATCOM

The distribution static compensator(DSTATCOM) provides fast control of active and reactive powers to enable load compensation, harmonics current elimination, voltage flicker mitigation, voltage, and frequency regulation. The DC supply for the STATCOM device contains a hybrid of triple sources (Solar Cells, Battery Energy Storage and Grid) in the proposed compensation system, and the operation mechanism of the STATCOM with these sources as follows:

a) When the energy production of solar cells is higher than the compensation power required by the power system, in this case, the excess energy is stored in the battery.

b) When the energy production of solar cells is less than the compensation power required by the power system such as weather is cloudy or at night, in this case, the battery compensates for the need for the system partially or completely.

c) When the solar cells and battery are inabilities to provide the system with compensation power required, the grid will replace them and measuring the amount current and voltage from grid or battery or PV.

The coordination of all these sources and prevent interference among them is implemented by using a controller. The parameter tuning of the controller is achieved by using three optimization algorithms i.e. Ant lion, Dolphin Echolocation, Teaching Learning Based Optimization to analyze the performance. After that, the STATCOM device relates to IEEE 13-Bus System and subject to the below test cases to evaluate the design performance.

Case 1:Feeder tripping and re-closing without DSTATCOM in the network and RMS voltage, active power flow, reactive power flow.

Case 2:Feeder tripping and re-closing with D-STATCOM in the network and RMS voltage, active power flow, reactive power flow.

Case 3:Load switching without D-STATCOM in the network and RMS voltage, active power flow, reactive power flow.

Case 4:Load switching with D-STATCOM in the network and RMS voltage, active power flow, reactive power flow.

Case 5:Voltage sag and swell without D-STATCOM

Case 6:Voltage sag and swell WITH D-STATCOM and Reactive power flow

Case 7:Active power flow and reactive power flow with DSTATCOM for different PV parameters

Case 8:Three phase short circuit fault and double line to line faults and single line to ground fault in order to test the design in the severe disturbances.
